One of America's most celebrated graphic designers and creator of the I ♥ NY logo, Milton Glaser was commissioned by Columbia Records to design a bonus insert poster for inclusion with the 1967 vinyl release of Bob Dylan's Greatest Hits. Taking inspiration from a 1957 self-portrait silhouette by Marcel Duchamp and the colourful forms of Islamic painting, Glaser depicted Dylan in bold, black profile, punctuated with psychedelic swirls of technicolour curls, and created an icon of 60s counterculture. It is believed that up to six million posters were printed, though few have survived in excellent condition. Examples of this poster reside in MOMA and the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum in New York and the V&A Museum and National Portrait Gallery in London.
