A rare boxing-style promotional poster for The Rolling Stones 1978 album Some Girls, featuring the famous withdrawn album artwork. Peter Corriston's kitsch design, with illustrations by Hubert Kretzschmar, featured a retro advertisement for wigs on the outer sleeve, with die-cut holes revealing the band's faces as if in drag alongside a bevy of famous beauties on the inner sleeve. When Lucille Ball, Farrah Fawcett, Raquel Welch, and the estates of Marilyn Monroe and Judy Garland threatened to sue for the use of their likenesses without permission, the offending artwork was withdrawn and the album reissued with revised artwork, the starlets faces cut out and replaced with the words Pardon our appearance – cover under re-construction. Printed by Colby Posters of Los Angeles for posting on telephone poles around Los Angeles, these posters were swiftly pulled down when the original album artwork was withdrawn. This unused example was obtained from a former employee of Colby Posters. A copy of this poster sold at Heritage Auctions in November 2017 for $1,350 USD.
