With the tagline His whole life was a million-to-one shot this classic US One Sheet teases the rags to riches underdog tale that won over viewers in the 1976 boxing drama Rocky. A then unknown Sylvester Stallone both wrote the screenplay and starred as small-time Philadelphia boxer Rocky Balboa who gets the chance of a lifetime when world heavyweight champion Apollo Creed chooses him as an unlikely opponent for his championship fight. With the support of girlfriend Adrian (Talia Shire) and trainer Mickey (Burgess Meredith), Rocky rises to the challenge in pursuit of glory. Made on a budget of $1 million, the feel-good film was a sleeper hit, earning $225 at the box office and becoming the highest grossing film of 1976. Considered one of the greatest sports movies every made, the critically acclaimed crowd pleaser was nominated for ten Academy Awards, winning three including Best Picture, and spawned seven sequels to date. While later posters heavily promoted the film's award nominations, this poster dates from the initial pre-awards theatrical release.
Condition
Excellent (A-)
Conservation backed on linen. Prior to backing this poster had one vertical and three horizontal machine folds as issued with wear and some black ink transfer to folds. Backing and light colour touching has smoothed and diminished the appearance of folds for display. Image and colour otherwise excellent.
