A scarce unfolded Australian One Sheet poster for the first instalment of George Lucas' original, genre-defining, sci-fi trilogy. Two styles of art were used for the original theatrical release of Star Wars in Australia. The first posters to be issued featured the same Tom Jung artwork as the US Style A posters, while the second wave design, as seen here, utilized the more colorful Tom Chantrell illustration originally commissioned for the British quad campaign and repurposed in a vertical format for the US Style C. Chantrell often used his family as models for his poster artwork; for this design, which has become synonymous with the franchise, his wife posed as Princess Leia in their garden with a plastic sword.
Condition
Very Good (B+)
Unfolded, conservation backed on linen with no restoration. Backing has diminished three fine 2 in. horizontal creases towards upper edge and a few minor creases to black margins. Image and colours otherwise excellent.
