An extremely rare and striking silkscreen-printed British Double Crown poster for Alfred Hitchcock's 1963 psychological masterpiece The Birds, based on Daphne du Maurier's 1952 short story of the same name, starring Tippi Hendren in her debut role. The suspense-filled thriller set in an eerie Northern California coastal town besieged by a series of unexplained violent bird attacks remains one of the most terrifying films ever made.
Condition
Very Good (B+)
Silkscreen printed in black and yellow inks on heavy stock. Conservation backed on linen with no restoration. Prior to backing the poster had one vertical and three horizontal manual folds and another partial horizontal fold 2 in. below upper fold, with some heavy creasing and slight surface wear to folds in places, a 7 in. horizontal crease to left edge extending through Hitchcock's portrait with perpendicular creasing, a few small vertical creases around the word 'Birds' and a few small vertical creases to lower edge. Backing has smoothed and diminished these folds and creases significantly, but due to the thickness of the paper stock they have not been completely diminished and are visible on close inspection. Colours excellent.
