Ancient Egypt meets modern art in this impressive mosaic and monotone design by Somorjai Imre for the first Hungarian release of the lavish 1963 epic Cleopatra, starring Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton and Rex Harrison. The most expensive film ever made at that time, requiring 26,000 costumes and 79 sets, the production was hampered by overruns and the near fatal illness of its leading lady, almost bankrupting 20th Century Fox. A media frenzy surrounding the notorious affair between co-stars Burton and Taylor ensured the film closed as the highest grossing of the year, albeit at a loss due to the astronomical production costs.
Condition
Excellent (A-)
Conservation backed on linen. Prior to backing this poster had one horizontal and one vertical fold, with minor nicks to edges and bumps to corners. Backing and minor colour touching has smoothed and diminished fold lines. Image and colours excellent.
