A stunning stone lithograph poster by Duccio Marvasi for the first French release of the 1948 Italian melodrama Una Lettera all'Alba (Letter at Dawn), released in the US as the cautionary tale Cocaine: The Thrill That Kills, and in France as, simply, Cocaïne. Directed by Giorgio Bianchi, the film follows a cocaine trafficker as he attempts to prove his newfound and similarly wayward son's innocence in a murder case. The film was restored in 2008 and presented as part of a retrospective a the 65th Venice International Film Festival.
Condition
Very Good (B+)
Conservation backed on linen in the European style with no restoration whatsoever. Prior to backing this poster had one vertical and three horizontal machine folds as issued, with splits to vertical folds at edges and crossfolds. Backing has smoothed and diminished the appearance of folds for display. Some ink transfer residue along vertical fold. Image and colours otherwise excellent.
